Issued at Comiskey Park on Chicago’s South Side for the September 18, 1956 game between the Yankees and ChiSox, this program and ticket stub hail from the contest in which Mickey Mantle became the first Yankee since Babe Ruth (1928) to reach the 50 home run plateau. With two outs in the top of the 11th, Mantle launched a Billy Pierce offering for what proved to be the game-winning shot. Fittingly, Mantle raised his average to .350 en route to Triple Crown plaudits and the Bronx Bombers clinched their 22nd A.L. pennant that night. With covers and all (24) pages intact, the program presents minimally at the (EX-MT) plateau with unmarked scoring grids. The “Lower Grandstand” stub, meanwhile, is crease free and shows similar quality.
