Billed as the heir to Joe DiMaggio’s center field throne, 19-year-old rookie Mickey Mantle debuted in 1951 and after a brief return to the Kansas City Blues, fulfilled those prognostications by authoring a Hall of Fame career marked by 536 tape measure home runs and seemingly annual World Series appearances. This Mitchell & Ness 1951 New York Yankees home jersey was autographed by the switch-hitting great. Tailored from white flannel to match the specifications of the garments worn by Mantle after his August 24 recall, this size “L” button-down garment features a blue pinstripe pattern that conjures up memories of Mantle’s fence-clearing exploits in the Bronx. The left breast features the familiar “NY” logo sewn in navy-blue felt. Just below that identifier, Mantle’s black marker signature and inscription of “No. 7” resonates every bit of (“8-9”) strength and clarity. The back is home to a felt “7” and the left sleeve features an American League “Golden Anniversary” patch. Full photo LOA from JSA.
