Today, we’re asked “Got Milk?” In the 1980s, Cal Ripken told us: “Milk, it’s fitness you can drink.” But back in 1925 at the height of prohibition and resultant bootlegging, Washington Senators star Walter Johnson upheld his wholesome image as he posed to endorse a short film entitled Milk For You and Me. This colorful glass movie slide portrays Johnson in that endeavor and is the only known example. In vivid imagery, Johnson stands in his Senators road apparel holding a bottle of milk. The USDA Bureau of Dairy Industry Records dates the likeness to 1925. This is an absolutely amazing artifact in the realms of both the baseball and the film industry.
