While hardware and ostentatious jewelry have long been regular bestowals in New York Yankees history, prizes awarded for the team’s 1996 effort were a bit more special. This gold necklace and diamond-studded pendant is one such prize. A 23rd World Series title that year (twice the amount of the nearest competitor) only added to a lengthy list that defines baseball supremacy. But this one ended a franchise-long drought of 17 years. The 18-inch rope-style chain (approximately 3 grams) is crafted from 14-karat gold. Attached is the real reward: a 14-karat gold pendant paying homage to the Bronx Bombers’ 1996 feat. A blue-colored stone is accented by the familiar overlapping “NY” logo, which is comprised of 23 round brilliant cut genuine diamonds (approximately .55 carat total). Surrounding that design is a raised-letter proclamation of “1996 WORLD CHAMPIONS.” On the reverse, an engraved cursive notation reads: “Janice.” Originally issued to a friend of George Steinbrenner, the Fall Classic keepsake comes with a letter of appraisal from Kripps Jewelers, as well as a letter of provenance from the original recipient.
