Description

1953 Was the final full season of MLB play for the legendary Satchell Paige. It was also the last year for  his team, the St. Louis Browns, who rebranded in 1954 as the Baltimore Orioles. Gone though they are, memories of Paige and the Browns live on, with this signed 1953 Browns scorecard. Issued for a contest between the Browns, and the 1953 World Series champions, the New York Yankees, this vintage gameday souvenir is printed with the lineups for the two teams. The names "John Sain" and "D Pillitte" are written in the starting pitcher slots on the scoring grid section, indicating this scorecard is from the first game of a doubleheader, that took place on 7/16/53. Neither starter made it through the first inning, and Paige did not get in the game as a reliever. The Browns countered a 3/4 day, with 4 RBI by Mickey Mantle, with 5 homers, by 5 different players, for an 8-6 win. Paige has signed the Browns scoring grid in pencil, with ("8-9") potency.
